Culvert Footer Supported on a "continuous" foundation (i.e., either the soil or a layer of granular bedding), the culvert footers at both the inlet and outlet ends, do not have a high vertical loading. They, therefore, need not to be more than 3-foot wide and 2-foot thick. (For projects with more than 18 pre-cast segments, the user should calculate the "total fit-up" and decide whether to widen the culvert footer at the outlet.) The most significant design issue is the depth of the "Shear Key" for sliding prevention and scour protection. If you disagree with the "suggested" dimensions by the software, go ahead and overwrite them in the input data file. |
